The last GivingTuesday on December 3, 2019 generated $2 billion in giving in the United States alone. The day inspires millions worldwide to volunteer, perform acts of kindness, and donate their time, money, goods and voices. An additional giving day, #GivingTuesdayNow is a revolutionary global movement taking place on May 5 2020 as an emergency response to the unparalleled need caused by COVID-19. The purpose is to drive a phenomenon of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world! 

This global day of action will mobilize GivingTuesday’s network of leaders, partners, communities and generous individuals. It is also donating $200,000 to launch The Starlight Fund, which is designed to support its existing network of official country and community leaders. Priority is reserved for leaders in the regions of greatest crisis or lowest resource in an effort to strengthen their #GivingTuesdayNow initiatives.

#GivingTuesday is Here! What now?

It’s finally here, the much-anticipated global day of giving. Pat yourself on the back for all your hard work, but don’t kick back and relax just yet!

Social Media:

Monitor and update your platforms all day long. Share appeals but also make sure to share and respond to posts by supporters. Calling out your supporters will make them feel appreciated and special, making them more likely to interact with and share your posts. Don’t miss any opportunities to gain more exposure for your organization! Use hashtags so you show up in conversations throughout the day.

The more information you post, the more relevant your campaign becomes, meaning your cause will be on the minds of your donors throughout the entire day. Build excitement as you provide constant updates on the amount you have raised so far and how much more you need in order to reach your winning goal – keep the momentum going!

Do something fun and unique on social media such as creating a special hashtag for your campaign, using Facebook LIVE throughout the day, or using Instagram stories.

Send out a message first thing on Giving Tuesday reminding people that today is the day to give! Update those who have donated on the progress of your campaign, letting them know how close you are to “Fully Funded”. You could even send a message out towards the end of the day letting supporters know that time is running out and it is not too late to support your cause.

Promoting Your #GivingTuesday Campaign

Your community won’t support your organization on Giving Tuesday if they don’t know about it! It’s your job to keep your Giving Tuesday campaign first in mind and motivate supporters to get involved. Make sure that every day leading up to the global day of giving reminds your audience of the campaign and attracts new potential supporters to your cause.

Web Promotion:

Post fresh content on your social media platforms. Use eye-catching visuals and graphics that are easy to share, making for great engagement! Hashtags will boost your content to reach other pages, including the official #givingtuesday. Post on every platform you use with the support of companies like The Marketing Heaven in order to reach the widest audience possible.

Update your website and social media accounts to highlight the campaign and be proactive about reaching out to supporters, make sure everyone knows exactly how they can help. Feature Giving Tuesday logos and messaging, including calls to action that encourage potential supporters to learn more or donate. Anyone who visits your pages should know you are participating. Your donation pages should be up and running well in advance so followers can donate at any time.

Email Promotion:

Create a series of emails to send to parents, faculty/staff, alumni network, and donors. The topics could include your campaign goals, save the date, and more. Be imaginative! Announce your goals and the impact you plan on having; you could even give donors the option to give now. Introduce or profile a specific program to show supporters exactly where their contributions will go and the difference they can make.
